Wander through our idyllic corner of the countryside
We welcome you all to meander around The Wilde Story lavender fields and discover our bountiful kitchen garden. Free to visit from Thursday to Sunday, with an onsite café serving seasonal food and drinks, we’ve worked from the ground up to build a wonderful English garden, brimming with biodiversity, for you to soak up the serenity of country life.
Buzzing bees and beautiful butterflies make spring a joy to witness, but life is very much seen through lilac lenses in the summer when our British lavender puts on a show. Here at The Wilde Story, we harvest and make using everything we grow – from herb salads to sweet bakes and homemade lavender soaps.
Meet James, the man behind The Wilde Story
With the countryside running through his veins, James is happiest on the farm and surrounded by his blooming gardens. Having worked outside all his life in one way or another, he has generally not taken the conventional route through life and business. Highly motivated and ambitious, and constantly looking for ways to improve the way things work, James never truly stops.
In a previous life, James dabbled in building before a renowned pig farmer, which paved the way for creating the wonderful visitor experience at The Wilde Story today. Only in 2015 the land was bare, meaning everything has been hand built by James – from the big barn and the road to the field kitchen and facilities.
Together, Charlotte and James have an eye for detail, and this underpins everything that they are doing at The Wilde Story – with many more chapters yet to be written.
A little pocket of paradise
Formerly The Story Pig, home to Lavender Keepers café and a working Tamworth pig farm, they knew that their little pocket of paradise nestled in the scenic Dorset hills was too special not to share. So, hand in hand, James and Charlotte opened The Wilde Story; a secluded, intimate wedding venue in the West Country, the perfect canvas for couples to create the wedding celebrations of their dreams.
Sustainability
We’re very mindful of our carbon footprint and the importance of recycling. Wherever we can, we try to minimise our impact on the environment. We take recycling very seriously and take great care to ensure that as much waste is recycled as possible. We’re proud to be completely off grid, with everything at The Wilde Story powered by the sun, and use LED lights wherever possible. We call it green energy.
